The versatile Conical Paddle Dryer by Hosokawa Micron offers extremely fast batch drying in a compact design and is available in a range of sizes, from 5 to 15,000 litres.
Designed to be used vertically, this centrally driven universal dryer utilises the latest drying technology and a unique paddle motion for the pressurised vacuum processing of a wide variety of materials, including loose powders and pastes, and is particularly suitable for material that is heat sensitive and/or brittle. It may also be used for the thermal processing or vacuum treatment of solids. The dryer can be manufactured in all grades of stainless steel, monel, nickel, titanium and Hastelloy and supplied with a range of convenient accessories – such as a sampler, vacuum filter and lump breaker – adding to its versatility.
The Conical Paddle Dryer quickly and efficiently batch dries materials using thermal energy provided by its efficient jacket – which can be heated in various ways, including by using steam, hot oil or water – in combination with an effective paddle mixing feature. The vacuum created by the dryer allows vapour to be removed at low temperatures, which is perfect for heat-sensitive products or products that are brittle. Vapours are removed via a dust filter located at the top of the dryer, preventing any dust from penetrating the system.
A condenser is fitted to the dryer, which includes a receptacle for capturing solvents. Conveniently, the condenser can be installed before or after the vacuum pump, depending on the solvent’s characteristics.
For monitoring and controlling the moisture content of the material being processed, a sampler can be fitted to the Conical Paddle Dryer, allowing the operator to take samples from inside the dryer while it is under vacuum.
The finished product is discharged into a chosen receptacle via the ball segment valve.
Thermal Processing and Vacuum Treatment of Solids
Though the Conical Paddle Dryer has been designed to vacuum dry solid-based materials, the equipment’s versatility means it may also be used for thermal processing and vacuum treatment of solids, offering a space-saving and economical way to perform multiple processes using one product.
